Weekend storms bring heavy rain, flooding. Where did the heaviest rain fall?
Storms swept across the Kansas City area over the weekend, drenching parts of the metro area, especially those south of the metro area.
Two days of storms brought about an inch of rain to Kansas City International Airport, according to data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Regional Climate Centers. Meanwhile, the Wheeler Downtown Airport reported nearly 1.4 inches of rain.
Rainfall totals were higher further south in the metro, with 2.23 inches in Blue Springs, 2.11 inches in Lee’s Summit, 1.7 inches at the Johnson County Executive Airport in Olathe, and 1.57 inches at New Century AirCenter in Olathe.
Areas in the Kansas City metro with the highest rainfall totals for the 48 hours ending at 6 a.m. Monday were at 191st Street and Mission Road in Overland Park, with 2.25 inches of rain; Blue Parkway and Little Blue River in Kansas City, with 2.16 inches; and Mission Road at East Camp Branch and 199th Street and Newton Drive in Overland Park, both with 2.13 inches, according to rainfall data from StormWatch.com, a collection of rain gauges across the Kansas City metro.

Meanwhile, excessive rainfall from the weekend storms has led to river and creek flooding in areas south and east of the Kansas City metro.
The National Weather Service has issued flood warnings for the Lamine River in Cooper County, Missouri, the Blackwater River in Cooper, Saline, Pettis, and Johnson Counties in Missouri, the Marais Des Cygnes River in Linn County, Kansas, and the South Grand River in Henry, Bates, and Cass counties in Missouri.
