Cooler weather, multiple storms in the Kansas City forecast this week

After what is expected to be a dry, albeit cooler, start to the workweek, the Kansas City area will have multiple chances for thunderstorms later on, the National Weather Service said.

A cold front moved through the Kansas City region on Monday morning. Trailing cooler air is expected to send temperatures back to normal, a significant change after temperatures reached 84 degrees in the metro on Sunday. Typically, Kansas City’s temperatures are in the mid-60s this time of year.

Skies will be mostly sunny through mid-morning before becoming cloudy.

“Chances for any showers/light rain remains wholly underwhelming,” the weather service said.

There are low rain chances in parts of the region, but the weather service said, “Don’t hold your breath.”

Tuesday will be a repeat of Monday, except skies are expected to be clear.

Multiple chances for thunderstorms in Kansas City’s forecast

By Tuesday night, moisture from the Gulf will start moving north, bringing a chance of rain by Wednesday morning, the weather service said.

“Active pattern by mid-late week with multiple chances for thunderstorms, as early as Wednesday and thru the weekend,” the weather service said.

The weather service said Friday would be the day to watch for strong storms. The forecast models show enough energy and wind patterns to support severe storms.

Temperatures are also expected to warm back to around 70 degrees on Wednesday and the mid-80s on Thursday.

The chance for showers and thunderstorms continues into the weekend.

“Expect temperatures to step back a handful of degrees as well,” the weather service said.

Temperatures over the Easter holiday weekend will be in the mid-60s on Saturday and near 70 on Sunday.
