Frigid cold persists in KC metro but warmer weather is in the forecast. Here’s when
Kansas City can expect a cold start to the work week with below freezing temperatures persisting and negative wind chill values possible, according to the National Weather Service forecast.
Through mid-week, temperatures will remain 10 to 15 degrees below normal for this time of year, the weather service said in its Monday forecast discussion. The region will see warmer conditions toward the end of the week before another arctic blast drops in during the weekend.
Weather models are showing potential for a light dusting of snow Monday evening, with some moisture meeting a cold front coming down from Iowa, the forecast discussion said.
But mostly dry conditions don’t create an environment for much snow, the weather service said.
“Not expecting anything more than dusting overnight tonight,” meteorologists said in the forecast discussion.
KC weather forecast for later in the week
Conditions are expected to remain dry and cold on Tuesday, which should be the coldest day of the week. Temperatures on Tuesday could remain in the upper teens in northern Missouri, while much of the Kansas City metro is likely to experience a high near 22 degrees.
On Wednesday, the high is expected to remain in the 20s to mid 30s. Then by Thursday and Friday, temperatures are expected to rise near normal and slightly above normal for this time of year, the weather service said.
Widespread highs in the upper 30s to low 40s are possible Thursday. On Friday, the high could climb near 50 degrees, the weather service said.
But the warmth will be short-lived.
By the weekend, more arctic air is expected to arrive in the region.
There is a slight potential for light precipitation Friday night, the forecast said.
“While you can`t bank on precipitation chances at the moment, you can bank on the influx of more cold,” meteorologists said in the forecast discussion.
