Dozens of Kansas City area schools, businesses have closed for blizzard. See the list
As a winter storm rolled through the Kansas City metro, followed by frigid temperatures, many businesses, attractions and school districts announced closures.
Several inches of snow, ice and gusty winds hit the Kansas City area Saturday and Sunday. On Monday and Tuesday, as crew continue to work to clear the roads, the temperature is expected to plummet, with highs in the teens and lows below zero.
In addition to the closings below, KC Streetcar and RideKC also suspended public transit service Sunday evening.

What KC area schools will have snow days?
These K-12 schools have announced closures or a virtual learning day:
- Blue Springs Schools are closed Monday, Jan. 6.
- Blue Valley School District will be closed Monday.
- Center School District will do virtual learning Monday.
- DeSoto schools, Unified School District 232, will be closed Monday. It was already a day off for students, but employees won’t have to report either.
- Gardner Edgerton 231 School District will be closed Monday.
- Grain Valley Schools are closed Monday.
- Harrisonville Schools are closed Monday.
- Hickman Mills C-1 School District is closed Monday.
- Holden R-3 School District is closed Monday.
- Independence School District is closed Monday.
- Kansas City, Kansas School District is closed Monday.
- Kansas City Public Schools are closed Monday.
- Kearney School District is closed Monday.
- KIPP Kansas City is closed Monday.
- Lansing USD 469 is closed Monday.
- Leavenworth Unified School District will be closed Monday.
- Liberty Public Schools are closed Monday.
- North Kansas City School District is closed Monday.
- Olathe Public Schools are closed Monday.
- Park Hill School District is enacting its first virtual learning day Monday.
- Pembroke Hill is closed Monday.
- Piper USD 203 is closed Monday.
- Shawnee Mission School District will be closed Monday.
- Smithville School District is closed Monday.
- Spring Hill Schools is closed Monday.
These colleges and universities have also closed their campuses.
- Kansas City Art Institute is closed Monday.
- Johnson County Community College is closed Monday.
- Park University is closed Monday.
- UCM’s Lee’s Summit campus, which is on winter break, which be closed Monday.
- UMKC is still on holiday break for most classes, but its libraries and other facilities will operate remotely Monday.
Which KC attractions and nonprofits are closed?
- Bonner Springs City Library is closed Sunday, Jan. 5, and Monday, Jan. 6.
- Harry S. Truman Library & Museum closed early Saturday, Jan. 4, and will remain closed through Monday.
- The Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City will be closed Monday, except for its fitness facilities, which will be open after noon.
- Kansas City Public Library closed all locations early, at 4 p.m. Saturday, and they will remain closed through Monday.
- The Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium was closed Sunday. The Penguin March was canceled.
- The Independence Municipal Court is closed Monday.
- Lenexa United Methodist Church canceled worship services for Sunday. Worship was online.
- Music Theatre Kansas City canceled its performances of “All Shook Up” on Saturday and Sunday. Another performance was added 7 p.m. Monday.
- National WWI Museum and Memorial closed early Saturday and will remain closed through Monday.
- The Olathe Community Center was closed Sunday and will remain closed Monday.
- The Olathe Municipal Court is closed Monday, with some remote help available.
- The Olathe Public Library closed Sunday and Monday.
- The Parkville Living Center will be closed Monday.
- The Powell Community Center in Mission will be closed Monday.
- The Rabbit Hole was closed Sunday. It is regularly closed Mondays.
- The Raytown Municipal Court is closed Monday.
- TWA Museum at 10 Richards Road closed Saturday. It usually does not operate Sunday-Tuesday.
- The Unified Government of Kansas City, Kansas, and Wyandotte County will close its offices Monday
- The Veterans Community Project is closed Monday.
- Winter Magic was canceled for Saturday and Sunday, meaning Friday, Jan. 3, was its last night of the season.
What shops, restaurants and coffee shops are closed?
These businesses have announced Monday closings:
- Betty Rae’s Ice Cream closed all Kansas City area locations Sunday and Monday.
- Brown and Loe was closed Sunday and will remain closed Monday.
Café Cà Phê closed Sunday and Monday.
Donutology was closed Sunday and will stay closed Monday.
Filling Station Coffee was closed Sunday.
- French Custard was closed Sunday Jan. 5, and will also close Monday, Jan. 6.
- Hemma Hemma is closed through Tuesday, Jan. 7.
Little Store on Knox closed Sunday and Monday.
- McLain’s is closed Sunday and Monday.
- essenger Coffee closed its 11624 Grand and 4771 Jefferson locations Sunday and Monday.
- Mildred’s was closed Sunday and will be closed Monday.
- Parkville Coffee House was closed Sunday and will remain closed Monday.
- The Roasterie locations are closed Sunday and Monday.
- Second Best Coffee was closed Sunday and will stay closed Monday.
- Take Care by Oleo closed Sunday and will stay closed Monday.
Thou Mayest closed for Sunday and Monday.
- Yarn Social was closed Sunday and will stay closed Monday.

- Boulevard Brewing canceled its tours Sunday.
- Char Bar was closed Sunday.
- The Farmhouse was closed Sunday.
- Grunauer was closed Sunday.
- Jack Stack locations were closed Sunday.
- Lenexa Coin Laundry was closed Sunday.
- Made in KC closed all locations Sunday.
- Our House KC closed Sunday. It is regularly closed on Mondays.
- The Pairing KC closed early Saturday and remained closed Sunday.
- Price Rite Market and Deli KC “The Little Store” was closed Sunday.
- Rye was closed Sunday.
- Seven Swans Creperie is closed Sunday Jan. 5. The restaurant regularly closes Monday-Wednesday.
- The Ship, a live music venue in the West Bottoms, postponed its live shows for Saturday, Jan. 4. It regularly closes Sunday and Monday.
- Stone Canyon Pizza was closed Sunday. It is regularly closed Mondays.
- Strang Hall was closed Sunday.
- Stock Hill was closed Sunday.
A few places have announced intentions to be open Monday:
Rochester was closed Sunday, but hopes to reopen at 9 a.m. Monday.
- Waldo Pizza closed Sunday and plans to reopen Monday at 11:30 a.m.
