The old weather cliche “if you don’t like the weather, just wait a few minutes” describes Kansas City’s forecast this week well.

Temperatures will seesaw from above-average warmth to below-average cold, according to the National Weather Service.

A weak cold front passed through the area early Monday, bringing only modest cold air.

“So temperatures albeit a couple degrees cooler than yesterday (Sunday) will still remain above normal with highs in thy upper 40s to mid-50s,” the weather service said in its forecast discussion.

Kansas City’s temperatures are expected to reach 53 degrees, up from 42 degrees typically at this time of year.

The warmer than usual temperatures are expected again on Tuesday, climbing to 52 degrees.

“A mostly dry forecast is expected this forecast period with the lone low-end chance (15-25%) for precipitation coming Tuesday night,” the weather service said. “Otherwise the main forecast challenge will be the roller coaster temperatures over the next week.”

Colder cold front to move through KC region

A cold front is expected to move through the Kansas City area Tuesday night, bringing chilly air.

On Wednesday, temperatures will return to the seasonal average, ranging from the mid-30s to the mid-40s. The weather service said Kansas City will see temperatures around 40 degrees.

A brief warm-up will send temperatures rebounding back into the low 50s on Thursday, but a big cool-down is expected for Friday and the weekend.

Although sunny skies are expected, Friday’s temperatures will be around freezing, Saturday’s in the upper 30s, and Sunday’s near 40 degrees.
