The National Weather Service said temperatures across the Kansas City region will be mostly in the 20s on Monday, with some places in central Missouri possibly climbing to the low 30s.
The metro will reach around 29 degrees. That is considerably colder than the average for this time of year, which is 47 degrees.
Skies will clear out later this evening, paving the way for temperatures to plunge. Overnight temperatures are expected to fall into the teens. In Kansas City, temperatures will tumble into the upper teens.
Cold wind chill values in the single digits and teens are expected through Tuesday morning.
The forecast is that the metro area will remain dry.
Brief weather warm-up coming to Kansas City
It will start to warm up on Tuesday, with temperatures “expected to be 10 degrees warmer than Monday,” the weather service said. However, it will still be colder than usual.
Temperatures will be around 37 on Tuesday, falling to around freezing overnight. The weather service said temperatures on Wednesday will soar into the low 50s in the metro.
“These warmer temperatures will be short-lived as the passage of a strong cold front Wednesday evening will drop high temperatures back into the 20s and 30s across the area for Thursday,” the weather service said.
The colder temperatures will last through Friday, with temperatures climbing to around 41 degrees. Cold wind chill values are likely on Thursday and Friday.
Warmer weather is expected for the weekend, with temperatures likely in the 50s on Saturday and Sunday.
