Cold snap grips Kansas City metro as fast moving storm could bring snow to area
A cold snap has gripped the Kansas City area causing temperatures to plunge across the metro, the National Weather Service said.
“Below normal temperatures are expected today (Friday) through Monday,” the weather service said.
Kansas City’s temperatures are typically in the upper 40s this time of year. However, high temperatures will remain in the 30s for the next several days, and overnight temperatures will tumble into the teens and 20s.
Shortly before 7 a.m. on Friday, the temperature at Kansas City International Airport was 18 degrees. The wind made it feel much colder, with the wind chill temperature at 11 degrees.
Fans will want to wear multiple layers if they are headed to the Kansas City Chiefs versus the Las Vegas Raiders football game at Arrowhead Stadium. By kick-off at 2 p.m., temperatures will have rebounded to around 36 degrees. The wind chill, however, will make it feel below freezing.
Light snow likely in Kansas City
A fast-moving storm system will likely bring snow to the metro overnight into Saturday morning.
The weather service said most locations in the Kansas City forecast area will likely receive some snowfall, but accumulations will be minor—ranging from a dusting to less than an inch.
The heaviest snowfall is expected to be east of Kansas City, along Interstate 70 in central Missouri, the weather service said. A swath of one to two inches of snow is possible. The best chance for snow is between 6 a.m. and noon on Saturday.
