Dry and mild weather will close out the week in Kansas City, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures will be near or slightly above average on Thursday, rising to around 58 degrees under sunny skies, the weather service said. Typically, Kansas City sees daytime temperatures around 54 degrees, with overnight temperatures falling to 34 degrees this time of year.

With mostly clear skies overnight, temperatures will dip into the upper 30s.

Above-average temperatures return on Friday and Saturday, reaching the lower 60s. Dry weather will prevail.

Cold front moves through Sunday

According to the weather service, a strong storm system will bring Kansas City’s next chance for rain on Sunday.

A cold front is expected to move through the region sometime on Sunday, possibly stalling somewhere over the Kansas City forecast area.

While there will be a chance for rain in the afternoon, widespread, moderate rain showers are expected Monday.

There is a greater than 50% chance that rainfall totals will exceed one inch and a 12% chance that rainfall will exceed two inches at Kansas City International Airport, the weather service said in its forecast discussion. Northwest Missouri could see as high as 1.5 inches of rain.

As of Wednesday, the metro has received 3.14 inches of rain. The weather service said on social media that the average precipitation for November in Kansas City is two inches.

“So we are already well above normal for the month,” the weather service said. “This is already the 20th wettest Nov. on the 137-year record!”

The wettest November came in 1931 when 9.52 inches of precipitation was reported.

So far this year, Kansas City has seen 32.65 inches of precipitation, compared to the average of 36.72 inches at this time of year.

Temperatures will be in the low 60s on Sunday and Monday.

Colder weather coming

Much colder weather is expected to move into the area by the middle of next week, the weather service said.

Overnight temperatures are expected to fall to the low 50s on Monday night, which will be near the warmest temperatures on Tuesday.

From there, temperatures will plunge into the 40s and upper 30s on Wednesday and Thursday. Overnight temperatures will be near freezing to the mid-30s.

The extended forecast outlook shows that below-average temperatures and precipitation are possible for the week of Thanksgiving.
