Burglars took $20,000 cash from Travis Kelce’s home during October break-in: Police
An October break-in reported at the home of Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce ended with the burglar or burglars taking at least $20,000 in cash, according to the Leawood Police Department.
The missing cash factors into a total of $21,000 in theft and damage loss associated with the break-in, according to a Leawood police report obtained by The Star. The burglar allegedly entered through the back door of Kelce’s home, which was damaged during the Oct. 7 break-in.
The incident was reported to Leawood police around 1:36 a.m. on Oct. 8. However, police believe that the break-in took place between 7:33 and 7:43 p.m. on Oct. 7, according to the report.
That would have been in the first quarter of the Chiefs’ “Monday Night Football” game against the New Orleans Saints at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs won 26-13.
International singing star Taylor Swift, who is dating Kelce, was at the game that night.
TMZ, which first reported about the break-in, said Kelce and Swift chose not to stay in the home following the burglary. They opted instead to stay at a hotel in Kansas City, and days later were in New York City with friends.
Swift’s security team has been on alert since a foiled terrorist plot resulted in her three Eras Tour concerts in Austria being canceled in August.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ home was also burglarized shortly after midnight on Oct. 6. Unlike at Kelce’s Leawood mansion, the burglary at Mahomes’ Belton estate was not characterized by forced entry, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
Leawood police have classified the break-in at the Kelce residence as felony criminal damage to property. Police do not believe that the alleged burglar was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office has classified the incident at the Mahomes residence as “Burglary/Breaking and Entering.” The break-in is still under investigation.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation was not available to comment on reporting from TMZ that the agency has become involved in investigating the burglaries as part of a larger Kansas City crime spree.
However, police records indicate that the incident at Kelce’s home could merit felony theft charges if an arrest is made.
Both Kelce and the Mahomes family moved into their respective homes in 2023. Mahomes had purchased the land in Belton several years prior and had a home built there, while Kelce had relocated from Briarcliff.
