Expect showers on your commute Wednesday morning. Here’s when KC will get the most rain
Showers and thunderstorms are making their way into the Kansas City metro Wednesday morning, but no severe weather is expected, according to the National Weather Service in Kansas City.
The best time for measurable rainfall will be from rush hour into the early afternoon in the western parts of the NWS forecast area. Radar shows the storms are approaching Kansas City from the southwest, moving through Oklahoma and Kansas before reaching the metro.
Weather models are showing increased chances of lightning and thunder accompanying the rain, the weather service said in a forecast discussion Wednesday. Although the best chances for rain are in the morning, low clouds and drizzle could continue later into the day.
Showers could linger into the evening mostly east of U.S. Highway 63, according to the weather service. The forecast is predicting less than half an inch of rain for most of the region.
“All of this said, certainly no severe weather is expected, and the occurrence of thunderstorms should be fairly sparse and brief,” the weather service said in its forecast discussion.
Colder temperatures ahead
Weather models show gusty wind later in the day will keep temperatures from dropping low Wednesday night. But by early Friday morning, temperatures could drop to freeze levels in rural areas of northern and central Missouri, according to the NWS.
Wednesday’s high is expected to be near 57 degrees and the overnight low will be around 42 degrees.
The rest of the week will be drier, with sunny days expected Thursday through Saturday. Weather models predict relatively mild temperatures for this time of year through at least Saturday night.
The next chance for meaningful rain is early next week on Monday, according to the weather service. But a slight chance of showers are possible Sunday, with models predicting a 30% chance of rain that day.
Colder temperatures are possible into the middle of next week, according to the NWS.
“After the very warm fall our region has had, this might be our first real dose of the cold season allegedly approaching,” the NWS said in its Wednesday forecast discussion.
Thursday will be sunny with a high near 59 degrees and an overnight low near 39 degrees.
Friday will be sunny with a high near 63 degrees. The overnight low could be around 45 degrees.
Saturday will be mostly sunny with a high near 64 and a low around 52 degrees.
