More fall-like weather is expected to return to the Kansas City area, along with some late-weekend rain, according to the National Weather Service in Kansas City.

After a stretch of several days with temperatures 15-20 degrees above normal, cooler weather is expected this weekend in the Kansas City metro area, the weather service said.

Sunny skies with temperatures in the mid-50s is expected Friday. Typically, Kansas City’s temperatures this time of year are in the low 50s.

Conditions will be slightly warmer on Saturday, with temperatures climbing into the low 60s under clear skies.

Then on Sunday, normal weather conditions return with temperatures in the mid-50s expect. There is also a high chance for light rain Sunday into Monday.

The best chances for rain will be Sunday night into Monday morning. Generally areas south of Interstate 70 have an 80 to 90% chance of rain and areas north of the Missouri River have a 70 to 80% chance of rain, the weather service said in its forecast discussion.

“This could be a nice soaking rainfall for some,” the weather service said.

Between .25 to .75 of an inch of rain is expected.

Much colder air is expected to sweep into the area next week, according to the weather service. Temperatures are expected to be in the upper 40s on Monday, mid-40s on Tuesday and low 40s on Wednesday.

Overnight temperatures will be chilly, dropping to the upper 30s on Monday, around 30 on Tuesday and mid-20s on Wednesday.

By Thanksgiving morning, temperatures are expected to be in the teens across northern Missouri and the low 20s south of the Missouri River.

The weather service is watching a possible storm system that could move into the region late Friday into Saturday, which could bring some measurable snow. There is a 10 to 30% chance for an inch of snow, the weather service said

The Kansas City area typically sees its first measurable snowfall of the season around Nov. 28. A measurable snowfall is .1 of an inch or more.

“We’ll need to keep a close eye on this system, especially for the impact to travel after Thanksgiving,” the weather service said.
