Showers sweep across Kansas City area. Is first taste of autumn just around corner?
Drivers headed to work and other appointments could run into rain showers during the morning rush in Kansas City, according to the National Weather Service.
Widely scattered storms were cutting through the area, making the morning commute a little wet for some, especially those in the Kansas City’s Northland and areas north of the metro.
The morning showers, however, are expected to surrender to mostly sunny skies by Friday afternoon, allowing temperatures to rise to around 84 degrees in the metro.
For those with Friday night activities, expect conditions to be warm with temperatures in the upper 70s to mid-80s. Temperatures will begin to cool down after sunset, dropping into into the lower 60s to around 70 by around 10 p.m., the weather service said. Dry weather is expected.
While the smoke from Canadian wildfires continue to affect the air quality in the Kansas City area, the bulk of the haze and smoke should shift eastward on Friday, the weather service said.
Temperatures will be slightly above normal on Saturday and Sunday, climbing into the mid-80s in the metro. Typically, temperatures are around 82 degrees this time of year in Kansas City.
A cold front is expected to move through the area Sunday evening, bringing the chance for showers and thunderstorms. Rainfall totals are expected to be modest, although some areas could see higher amounts, the weather service said.
The cold front is expected to usher in much cooler temperatures, giving the Kansas City area its first taste of autumn weather, the weather service said in its forecast discussion. Temperatures are expected to be in the lower to mid-70s during the day and the lower to mid-50s at night Monday through Thursday of next week.
