Thunderstorms and possible hail are expected to move across the Kansas City metro area throughout Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

Showers and thunderstorms began Monday morning and are expected to move slowly across the metro area into the afternoon and evening. A severe thunderstorm warning was in effect until 11:15 a.m. for North Kansas City and Gladstone.

Meteorologists don’t anticipate major threats from the storms, but some residents have reported isolated bouts of hail, heavy rain and gusty winds. Hail has typically been pea and nickel-sized, but in some areas residents have seen quarter-sized chunks.

Storms should be strongest in the morning and weaken as the day continues. Temperatures will remain warm with a high of 72 degrees and a low 52 degrees at night.

Conditions are expected to clear up the rest of the week, with sunny skies and temperatures in the high 70s predicted for Tuesday and Wednesday.
