Tornadoes, large hail, strong winds possible as strong thunderstorms sweep through KC
Another round of severe weather is expected to sweep through the Kansas City area this week, bringing strong thunderstorms that could generate large hail, strong winds and tornadoes, according to the National Weather Service.
The timing of the storms will be Tuesday afternoon and evening. While central and northeast Missouri are at a greater risk of seeing the severe weather, a few tornadoes cannot be ruled out in the Kansas City metro area, the weather service said.
“It’s imperative everyone keep up to date on the latest forecast, as details will emerge and change as we approach Tuesday afternoon,” the National Weather Service said.
The weather service’s Storm Prediction Center has placed the Kansas City area at a slight risk of severe thunderstorms, which means that scattered severe storms are possible. Any severe weather that develops should be short-lived and not widespread. Isolated intense storms are possible.
Temperatures to start the week will be quite warm, with the Kansas City expecting to reach the mid-70s on Monday and the mid-80s on Tuesday.
Strong winds, with gusts in excess of 40 mph are possible, bringing an increased concern that weather conditions could lead to the rapid spread of fire.
Dry and quiet weather conditions are expected to return, with temperatures in the 50s on Wednesday and Thursday. The dry weather continues into the weekend, with highs returning the 60s on Friday and the 70s for the weekend, according to the weather service.
