A body was found in the Missouri River on Sunday afternoon near a popular Kansas City park, authorities said.

First responders were called at about 3:23 p.m. Sunday after a body was reported in the area of the Berkley Riverfront Park, said Sgt. Jake Becchina, a spokesman with the Kansas City Police Department.

The body was located along the river with the help of a police helicopter, Becchina said.

The fire department also responded and brought the body to a boat ramp where it was then taken away.

A death investigation is ongoing. No other information was immediately available.
