Scattered rain showers expected through midday in Kansas City, and more Thursday night
Light rain and much cooler weather conditions will spread across the Kansas City area as the official end of summer quickly nears and the fall season is set to begin, according to the National Weather Service.
While fall officially arrives at 8:04 p.m. Thursday in Kansas City, weather conditions have taken an early start to the season.
Temperatures are expected to be in the mid-60s on Thursday and mid-60s to lower 70s on Friday. This is much cooler than earlier in the week, where record-setting temperatures climbed to near 100 degrees. Temperatures typically are in the upper 70s for this time of year in Kansas City, according to the weather service.
Scattered rain showers are expected to continue through midday Thursday with another round of light rain expected Thursday night into Friday morning.
“While rainfall looks likely for most areas, especially across northern MO, rain amounts continue to look meager, at best, with possibly another quarter to as much as a half an inch of rain expected,” the weather service said in its forecast discussion.
In the Kansas City metro area, rainfall totals are expected to range between .1 and .25 of an inch. No severe weather is expected with the rain.
Conditions will warm up Saturday, with temperatures climbing into the mid- to upper 80s. Another cold front will pass through the metro area later in the day.
Temperatures will be in the 70s Sunday and through next week, which is normal for the end of the September, the weather service said.
