Fall-like weather coming to Kansas City as cold front moves through the metro
A cold front will sweep across the Kansas City region Wednesday bringing the chance of showers and thunderstorms along with a break from record-level heat for the first day of fall, according to the National Weather Service.
After three days of unseasonably warm weather, including Tuesday when the temperature climbed to a record setting 99 degrees, the metro will see cooler conditions in the mid-80s, which is still above normal. Temperatures for this time of the year in Kansas City typically are in the upper 70s.
The cold front is expected to move through the Kansas City area early in the afternoon, according to the weather service. The front will bring a chance for showers and thunderstorms, although severe weather is not expected.
The first day of fall arrives Thursday and along with it will be much cooler conditions. Temperatures will be in the 60s on Thursday and Friday. Some areas could see light rain in the morning of both days, according to the weather service.
Temperatures will warm back up on Saturday, reaching into the mid-80s. Another cold front will move through the area that evening. Temperatures will be close to normal for the first half of next week, with highs in the mid- to upper 70s, according to the weather service.
