Rounds of thunderstorms possible as Kansas City heads into active weather pattern

Better get those umbrellas ready — Kansas City will be headed into an active weather pattern that will stretch into the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Scattered rain showers are expected to continue across the area with rain chances increasing throughout Wednesday morning, the weather service said.

Strong thunderstorms could develop Wednesday afternoon, with a few isolated severe thunderstorms possible in areas south of Interstate 70 and west of Interstate 49. The primary threat from these storms is hail up to the size of golf balls.

Rain should come to an end in most areas by midnight.

The next round of showers and strong thunderstorms will arrive Thursday afternoon into the evening. These storms could also produce large hail, the weather service said. The rain from these storms should come to an end by Friday morning.

Another round of thunderstorms is possible Saturday evening. Some of the stronger storms could produce straight line winds, the weather service said. The chance for widespread severe weather with these storms remains low.
