Snow is back in the forecast as storm rolls through metro after warm week in Kansas City
Over the last week, as snow was still melting from the heaping 9 inches of snow Kansas City got several days before, temperatures turned toasty, reaching a record 85 degrees.
But then reality hit: snow is back in the forecast.
“So, yesterday we had temperatures in the 70s and severe weather. Today (more like tonight), we’re going to go ahead and do something completely different! #snowtonight” the National Weather Service tweeted Sunday morning.
Rain is expected to hit the metro mid-afternoon Sunday — likely around 4 p.m. — as the temperatures stretch into the upper 40s.
The rain is expected to turn to snow sometime between 10 p.m. and midnight as the temperatures drop to about 27 degrees.
Up to two inches are possible north of the metro, prompting a hazardous weather outlook issued by the weather service early Sunday morning.
The Kansas City area will likely only see a dusting of the white stuff, so no need to break out the shovels just yet.
Can’t get enough of the weather whiplash? While Thursday will likely warm back up into the 50s, even more snow could be on its way Thursday night. Though it’s a bit too far out to tell how much snow the metro will get, it’s certain that winter isn’t over yet.
