Missouri tornado reached speeds of 120 miles per hour as it tore through Linn County

A tornado that tore through Linn County on Sunday reached a top wind speed of 120 miles per hour, according to the Kansas CIty National Weather Service.

A preliminary damage survey from the weather agency has classified the tornado that struck the Purdin, Missouri area as an EF-2 tornado. It began around 4:30 p.m. and ended around 5:18 p.m. and its path went roughly 31 miles, the weather service said on Twitter.

No one was injured during the tornado, the National Weather Service said. Residents of the area were advised to seek shelter as two circulations were seen on radar Sunday afternoon.

The report comes after several tornado warnings were issued Sunday afternoon across northwest Missouri. Sightings were captured on video near Amazonia, Missouri and Bendena, Kansas.
