Tornado warnings issued north of Kansas City in several Missouri towns, counties
Tornado warnings were issued Sunday afternoon across northwest Missouri, including one in Pattonsburg, Jameson and Weatherby, which expires at 4 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
The service also advised residents in Mirabile, Kingston, and Hamilton in Caldwell County to take cover.
“There is a confirmed tornado heading your way!” the agency tweeted.
Earlier in the day, several other warnings were issued to the north of the Kansas City metro, including in Country Club Village and Amazonia in Missouri, and for Troy, Kansas. Those expired at 2:45 p.m.
A second tornado warning issued several minutes later for Saint Joseph, Country Club Village and Maysville expired at 3 p.m.
A third warning was issued just north of St. Joseph for the towns of Savannah, Rea and Rosendale through 3:15 p.m.
A fourth warning was later issued for Cameron, Plattsburg and Lathrop until 3:15 p.m.
Tornado watch
Kansas City, along with most of Missouri, is under a tornado watch until 10 p.m. Sunday night.
The tornado watch includes most of the state, with the exception of the northernmost counties, southeast Missouri and the Bootheel region, according to the National Weather Service.
A tornado watch is issued when “conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes in and close to the watch area,” according to the weather service.
Hail up to the size of a lime and wind gusts up to 75 mph are also possible, according to the weather service.
