Frosty Friday expected as temperatures dive into the 30s overnight in Kansas City area

The Kansas City area will see cooler than normal temperatures Thursday and overnight lows tumbling into 30s, said FOX4 meteorologist Michelle Bogowith.

“Cool today — highs in the lower 60s,” said Bogowith, who provides weather updates to The Star. “A frosty start to your Friday morning, especially north of the metro as temperatures dive down into the 30s.”

The high is expected to climb back to the lower 60s on Friday.

A cold front will move into the area, bringing the chance of rain on Saturday. Most of the rain will be winding down by the evening hours, leaving the metro dry on Sunday for the Kansas City Chiefs game versus the New England Patriots, she said.

Highs this weekend will remain around 60 degrees, which is about 10 degrees below average for this time of year in Kansas City.

“Average high temperatures to start today will be around 73 degrees falling down into the lower 50s by the end of the month on the 31st,” Bogowith said. “Typical precipitation that we have is just over 3 inches of rainfall and in a typical snow season .2 of an inch. Yes we have had snow as early as October.”

The sunset on Thursday will be the final time for a 7 p.m. until mid-March in the metro.

“Over the course of the next 31 days, we will lose 43 minutes of daylight,” she said.
