Police investigating suspicious death after body found decomposing in south KC home
Update: Police in an email Thursday morning said while the investigation is ongoing, “the incident does not appear to be an obvious homicide.”
Police were investigating a suspicious death Wednesday after a person went to check on a friend and found someone dead in a south Kansas City home.
Officers responded to a burglary call about 2:30 p.m. at a home near Norby Road and East 112th Street, according to the Kansas City Police Department.
There, officers found a person who said he went to check on a friend he had not heard from in a few days. He said he went inside a house and found the body of someone “he thought was his friend,” police said.
The house was in “some form of disarray,” Capt. David Jackson wrote in an email to reporters.
Police have not identified the person, who was in “early stages of decomposition,” Jackson wrote.
A cause of death has not been determined.
