Winds to shift, pulling down cooler air into Kansas City as frost possible in metro
The winds will be shifting in the Kansas City area Wednesday, ushering in much cooler temperatures and the chance for frosty conditions to end the work week, said FOX4 meteorologist Michelle Bogowith.
“For the day today we are tracking a front and that front is going switch our winds over to the northwest late morning or early afternoon, pulling down some cooler air,” said Bogowith, who provides weather updates to The Star.
Wind gusts are expected to reach 30 to 35 mph Wednesday in the metro area, while areas north of Kansas City can see gusts of 40 mph, she said.
Highs in the afternoon are expected to be in the low to mid-70s. And then the cooler air arrives, dropping highs into the lower 60s on Thursday and Friday. Overnight lows will dip to the low 40s by Thursday morning and the upper 30s by Friday morning.
Frosty conditions are expected along and north of the Missouri River. Temperatures could dip into the lower 30s for parts of northern Missouri. Then another front arrives, bringing the metro its next best chance for rain, she said.
“As this moisture moves in, it won’t be an all day affair,” Bogowith said. “Just know we are going to have those chances for rain off and on.”
Cloudy and cooler weather conditions are expected Sunday, with highs in the low 60s. Temperatures will warm a bit headed into the next workweek. Highs will be around 70 degrees by Tuesday.
