Afternoon storm may bring wind, hail to Kansas City as rain continues into evening
After a morning of rain, storms will likely pick up Sunday afternoon and continue into the evening in Kansas City, according to FOX4 meteorologist Alex Countee.
“This afternoon, expect the showers and thunderstorms, along with some gusty winds again, around 15 to 20 miles per hour, this time out of the north,” said Countee, who provides weather updates to The Star.
The bulk of the storm system is expected to settle over Kansas City by about 4 or 5 p.m. as the temperature drops into the mid-50s, he said.
“With this main line, expect the heavy rain, obviously some thunder and lightning too, maybe even some gusty wind and small hail,” Countee said. “So we’re watching out for some possibilities of stronger storms and that rain will still meander around the Missouri side right around 8 to 9 o’clock.”
With the storm comes cooler temperatures.
“Ninety degrees yesterday to 66 for Monday afternoon, and you notice for the workweek ahead, not only do we not see any rain, but we’re still gonna stay pretty fall-like, in the 60s and 70s, over the next several days,” he said.
The rain will likely be cleared up by 7 a.m. Monday, Countee said. Expect sunnier skies Monday as the cooler temperatures stick around the area.
