Heavy rain and strong wind possible Sunday as storm systems move across Kansas City

Sunday will be stormy in Kansas City as the temperature drops throughout the day, according to the National Weather Service.

Isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected to form near the Interstate 70 corridor Sunday morning before moving south.

A second line of thunderstorms will likely form around noon in northwest Missouri before moving south over a more widespread area than the morning storms. Rain is most likely in Kansas City after 2 p.m. and before 11 p.m.

Severe weather is not in the forecast Sunday, but heavy rain and wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour are possible with the afternoon storm system, according to the weather service.

Sunday’s temperature will likely peak in the low-70s in the morning before dropping into the mid-60s by noon. The overnight low will be about 50 degrees.

Between a quarter and half an inch of rainfall are possible across the metro Sunday.

The storms will be out of the area by midnight.

No other rain is in the forecast for Kansas City through at least Friday, through temperatures will remain cooler, in the 60s and 70s with overnight lows in the 40s, according to the weather service.

Frost is possible across parts of northern Missouri later in the week.
