One more hot, humid day in Kansas City before cold front brings taste of fall

The Kansas City metro will have to endure one more hot and humid August day before relief arrives just in time for the weekend, said FOX4 meteorologist Karli Ritter.

“Later on today we are going to be topping out near 90 degrees but the heat index will be well into the 90s because of our really high humidity,” said Ritter, who provides weather updates to The Star.

But throughout the next couple of days, the dew point will fall and it’s going to feel much nicer this weekend and early next week, Ritter said.

The reason for the drop: a cold front is expected to arrive overnight, bringing rains and storms north of the Kansas City area, she said.

“A few scattered cells are possible here here in town, however most of us won’t see a drop of rain,” Ritter said. “And then as we head into the weekend and early next week, a taste of fall with highs hovering closer to 80 degrees.”

Temperatures this weekend are expected to be in the low to middle 80s, with overnight lows falling into the low 60s.
