Kansas City area to feel heat index above 100 Sunday, as rain moves into the region
Kansas City can expect sunny skies as a heat advisory goes into effect across the region Sunday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Kansas City.
There’s a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m.
The heat index Sunday could climb above 100 degrees. Northwest Missouri and northeastern Kansas are expected to see the highest temps around 105. The weather service recommends limiting time outside, staying in the shade if you venture out and drinking plenty of fluids.
The heat advisory is in effect from noon until 7 p.m.
“Stay cool today everyone, a break is in sight with these gross temps!” the weather service said on Twitter.
Kansas City is having its 18th wettest July on record to date, with roughly three inches of rain above normal. Rain is expected to move into the area tonight and continue into the early afternoon Monday.
“You’ll want the rain gear, just to be on the safe side,” said FOX4 meteorologist Alex Countee, who provides weather updates to The Star.
Storms are expected to begin after sunset, around 9:30 p.m. and reach the metro area between midnight and 1 a.m., Countee said.
Temperatures will drop to the mid and lower 80s to begin the week.
