Heat, humidity continues to build in KC; weekend heat index to soar above 100
The heat and humidity will continue to build through the remainder of the week, according to FOX4 meteorologist Karli Ritter.
“Later on today (Thursday) it’s going to be hot, it’ll be humid and that will fuel some isolated thunderstorms to bubble up as we top out near 90,” said Ritter, who provides weather updates to The Star.
“The 90 degree reading isn’t horrible, but when you combine it with dew points in the mid-70s, all of a sudden we’re going to be talking about a heat index that will be closer to the triple digits in some areas out to our west,” she said.
The Kansas city metro area will see it’s heat index climb to the mid- and upper 90s Thursday. It’ll be close to 100 again on Friday.
“As we head into the end of the week and the weekend, it really starts to surge with the heat index back into the triple digits,” Ritter said.
Any thunderstorms and rain showers that do develop Thursday will pop up between lunch time and 6 p.m., she said.
“As we look forward to the end of the week and the weekend, we will transition to a drier forecast and a hotter forecast before a cold front arrives cooling us down next week,” Ritter said.
