Rain, thunderstorms back in Kansas City’s forecast, bringing chance of flash flooding
Flash flooding is possible as rain and thunderstorms return to the Kansas City metro area Tuesday, FOX4 meteorologist Karli Ritter said.
“We are going to be fighting clouds again as rain and thunderstorms are back in the forecast leaving us with the potential for flash flooding today, especially through the first half of the day,” said Ritter, who provides weather updates to The Star.
“The rain is going to be with us through mid-day before it becomes a lot more isolated this afternoon into this evening,” Ritter said.
The soggy start of the day will mean much cooler, below overage temperatures as afternoon highs are expected to reach into the mid- to lower 80s, she said.
The normal high for this time of year is 89 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Kansas City.
“Tomorrow there will be a front nearby,” she said. “That will be the focal point again for additional rain chances for tomorrow into very early Thursday morning.”
Rain chances will begin to wind down Thursday afternoon and evening.
The heat returns for the weekend, with highs climbing into the 90s beginning Thursday and continuing into the weekend. Overnight night lows will provide little relief from the heat as they are expected to fall only into the mid-70s.
