Expect rain, plus chance of severe weather, early Saturday morning in KC

Kansas Citians should expect rain in the early hours Saturday morning and more rain to come next week, according to FOX4 meteorologist Garry Frank.

Overnight, there is a slight risk for severe weather, said Frank, who provides weather updates to The Star.

“We’re going to continue to see that overnight Friday into early Saturday, specifically because we’re going to see some heavy rain develop out west,” Frank said.

A severe thunderstorm watch was issued across northern Kansas and northwest Missouri until 4 a.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

Frank said rain could pick up between 3 to 5 a.m. Saturday. At that time, the area could also deal with wind gusts of at least 30 mph or hail.

“I think that’s going to be done with by the early mornings hours, but the rain will be around,” Frank said.

He said the area could see at least an inch, possibly 2 inches, of rain by Saturday morning.

The high on Saturday should be near 85 degrees.

“After that, more chances for rain Sunday,” Frank said.

Sunday looks to be warmed as well, according to the weather service, as temperatures climb near 93 degrees. Highs look to be near 90 for much of next week as additional chances of rain appear as well.
