Severe weather possible as thunderstorms blow into Kansas City area this evening
Showers and thunderstorms, some strong to severe, are expected to sweep into the Kansas City area Friday evening, according to Fox 4 meteorologist Karli Ritter.
“Later on today it’s going to be hot and humid as we climb into the upper 80s and low 90s,” said Ritter, who provides weather updates to The Star.
“After 4 or 5 o’clock, though, we need to be weather aware,” Ritter said. “We have thunderstorms that will be blowing in and some of them could be on the strong to severe side later this evening and through the overnight period.”
The Kansas City area and points to the north are under a slight risk of severe weather.
“Our biggest concern is going to be damaging winds as well as the possibility of hail as this line of storms approaches,” Ritter said. “They will linger through tomorrow morning.”
The rest of the forecast remains unsettled with the chance of storms and off-and-on showers throughout the weekend and into next week. It will be hot as 90-degree weather is expected to continue into next week also.
The National Weather Service in Kansas City said in its forecast that the chance for severe storms is greater for areas north of Interstate 70. The threat of severe weather, however, is low for off-and-on thunderstorms that persist throughout the weekend.
