Storms possible for Father’s Day weekend after a ‘pretty hot’ week in Kansas City
It’s going to be “pretty hot” in the Kansas City area this week as highs are expected to be in the 90s leading up to what may be a stormy Father’s Day weekend, said Fox 4 meteorologist Karli Ritter.
“We’ll see highs back in the lower 90s,” Monday, said Ritter, who provides weather updates to The Star. “We’re going to have a little bit of a breeze out of the south and a mainly dry first half of the day.”
Rain showers may pop up in some areas around and east of the Kansas City area during the second half of the day, Ritter said. If the storms develop, they would happen late afternoon and early evening.
“Then those showers disappear; we’re left with a pretty quiet overnight forecast and we settle into another hot day for tomorrow with more sunshine and low 90s expected through the first half of the week,” Ritter said.
The weather becomes more active with storms and thunderstorms at the end of the week.
“It will by no means be a total washout but as we approach the official start of summer and Father’s Day, we will have some slightly cooler air and a few more thunderstorms in the forecast,” Ritter said.
The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill said that while the storm chances increase at the end of the week, no severe weather is anticipated at this time.
Also, the humidity this week should stay low enough to keep heat index concerns low, according to the weather service.
