Remnants of Tropical Storm Cristobal to bring rain, thunderstorms to Kansas City area
Remnants of Tropical Storm Critsobal is expected to bring rain and thunderstorms to the Kansas City area overnight Monday, according to Fox 4 meteorologist Alex Countee.
“Throughout the entire day today, we’re still staying sunny, hot and humid with a high right around 91 degrees, feeling like the mid- to upper 90s for a lot of us,” said Countee who provides weather updates to The Star.
“Overnight tonight, we are going to notice rain showers coming up from the south, thanks to the remnants of Cristobal,” he said.
“Some of these thunderstorms along and east of the state line could be packing a little bit of a punch, with some rain, some wind and possibly a few larger hailstones around Clinton and Warsaw.”
The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill said between 2 to 4 inches of rain is expected in central Missouri. The Kansas City area, however, will likely see between a quarter- and half-inch of rain.
The storm system, however, will spin away from the Kansas City area by noon Tuesday, with the metro area drying out for a brief period.
“We will see some more storms come back through Kansas City for the late afternoon and evening,” Countee said.
There also could be some storms Tuesday night, but by Wednesday morning drier and cooler weather is expected.
Highs on Wednesday are expected to be in the upper 70s. For the rest of the week and into the weekend, highs are expected to be in the 80s.
“It looks like we’ll be staying a lot more comfortable than today’s 91 degree weather,” Countee said.
