Woman shot in face by alleged kidnapper after being stopped by police in Missouri
A woman was shot in the face by her alleged kidnapper in front of police after they had stopped the vehicle she was in Sunday evening in Bates County, Missouri.
Law enforcement officers then shot the man, killing him, according to the Bates County Sheriff’s office on Facebook. The woman was taken to a Kansas City hospital where she was being treated for serious injuries.
The man allegedly kidnapped the woman about 9:30 p.m. Sunday from her work in Butler. The kidnapper allegedly forced her into her car at gunpoint, according to the sheriff’s office.
She recently had filed for an ex parte order of protection preventing the man from being around her, the sheriff’s office said.
Authorities learned that the vehicle might be headed to the Kansas City area. Deputies and a police officer spotted the vehicle headed north on Interstate 49 and attempted to stop it.
Eventually, the vehicle pulled over to the side of the highway and the woman exited. As she walked toward officers, a man got out of the back seat and shot the woman in the face, according to the sheriff’s office.
Officers returned gunfire, striking and killing the man, the sheriff’s office said. The woman was rushed to a hospital.
The deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave while the Cass County Sheriff’s Office investigates the shooting.
