Showers, thunderstorms weaken, move out of Kansas City as heat, humidity builds
Rain and thunderstorms will move out of the Kansas City area Friday morning leaving behind what will be a hot and humid weekend, according to FOX4 meteorologist Karli Ritter.
“We are going to see the sun coming out — we’re actually going to be in the upper 80s to low 90s after a very rainy and stormy start,” said Ritter, who provides weather updates to The Star.
“These storms, they packed a punch with power outages, tree limbs down, trees uprooted ondd the homes in some spots, even in the immediate metro.”
As of 7:50 a.m., there were 13,074 customers without power in the Kansas City area, including more than 8,880 customers in Jackson County, according to Evergy’s online outage map.
“The good news is that this entire complex will be moving out and weakening as it does over the course of the next couple of hours and by this afternoon we should have sunshine,” Ritter said. “The heat that builds in today will be sticking with us heading into the weekend and we should stay relatively quiet through early tomorrow morning.”
The forecast shows that the weather will remain dry through early next week, she said. Highs this weekend will be in the upper 80s to lower 90s, she said.
A break in the heat will arrive with a cold front on Tuesday along with possible remnants of Tropical Storm Cristobal, bringing cooler temperatures, she said.
