Cars stuck in high water and manhole covers come off in Kansas City flooding

As flash flooding struck all around the Kansas City area Thursday, a truck left the road at Interstate 35 and Southwest Trafficway, where high water filled the roadway, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation.

In a Twitter post MoDOT asked drivers in the area the area to use extreme caution.

The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill issued flash flood warning through 5 p.m. Thursday for Johnson and parts of Wyandotte counties in Kansas and parts of Cass, Clay, Platte and Jackson counties in Missouri.

In a post on Twitter Thursday afternoon the Kansas City Police Department listed locations where cars had gotten stuck in water, where roads were covered by water and where manhole covers had come off.

In an earlier post, the department warned rivers to turn around rather than driving through high water.

Road conditions can be found at kcscout.com and modot.org.
