Severe thunderstorm watch issued for Kansas City region, with more rain in forecast
A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued across the Kansas City area, to be in effect until 8 p.m. Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.
Damaging winds up to 60 mph, hail the size of ping pong balls, and flash flooding are all possible hazards of the storms, the weather service said.
North of Kansas City, a severe thunderstorm warning issued across parts of Clay and Platte counties was set to expire before 3 p.m.
The forecast Sunday suggested rain storms may be irregular across the metro area, FOX4 meteorologist Garry Frank said in a morning update provided to The Star. But more rain is in the forecast Monday and Tuesday.
“We’re going to continue to look at rainy conditions off and on the next few days,” Frank said. “We’re going to see a pretty steady amount of rain, especially further west.”
Some parts of Kansas to the west of Kansas City are under a flash flood watch.
