Sunday storms to continue into Memorial Day as Kansas City forecast takes wet turn

A partly sunny Sunday morning will be followed by surges of storms in the Kansas City area lasting through Memorial Day and continuing through Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Sunday’s temperatures, already in the low 70s by 7 a.m., could reach near 86 later in the day. A chance for thunderstorms returns after 5 p.m. Sunday, with wind gusts up to 18 miles per hour.

The low overnight will be about 68, with the chance for storms again around 1 a.m. Monday, according to the weather service.

Memorial Day, which is Monday, will see a 90% chance of rain. The high will be about 80, with winds calmer than Sunday.

The chance for thunderstorms continues into Monday night and doesn’t let up until late Thursday, according to the weather service.

The high will remain in the upper 70s most of the week and the low will hover around 65.
