KC’s best chance for rain will be Memorial Day weekend, but it won’t be a washout

You might want to add rain gear to the list of items you’ll need as you’re making plans for this Memorial Day weekend.

Kansas City’s next best chance for rain will arrive Friday and continue Saturday and Sunday, according to Fox 4 meteorologist Karli Ritter.

“I do want to stress that the weekend is not going to be a washout,” said Ritter, who provides weather updates to The Star. “The unofficial start of summer happens and it’s going to feel like it with highs in the 80s.”

But first, the start of the week will be cooler than normal with highs climbing to the mid-60s Monday afternoon, she said.

Quiet weather is expected for much of the work week, with highs in the low 70s, a few degrees below the normal high in the mid-70s for this time of year in Kansas City.

“As we look at the back half of the week, we’ll focus on a little bit more activity on radar,” Ritter said. “There’s a lot of real estate being covered by a lot of different chances for rain starting late on Wednesday through Sunday in the middle part of the country.”
