Teen skateboarder seriously injured when hit by car in Kansas City’s Northland

A 16-year-old skateboarder was seriously injured late Sunday when he was hit by a car while he was riding in a street in Kansas City’s Northland, police said.

The collision occurred shortly before 10:15 p.m. at Northwest 61st Street and Northwest Prairie View Road, according to an email from Sgt. Jacob Becchina, a spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department.

The teen was riding his skateboard south in the southbound lanes of Prairie View Road with a friend at the time of the crash. A white Buick Century was headed south on Prairie View when it collided with skateboarder.

The teen was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the car was not injured in the crash.
