Thursday night storms could bring hail, damaging winds and flash flooding to KC area
A line of thunderstorms will be moving through the Kansas City area Thursday night, which could bring 60 to 70 mph winds and large hail.
FOX4 meteorologist Joe Lauria said there’s also a threat of some flash flooding. Some areas could see between 1 to 3 inches of rain during these storms.
While the risk of tornadoes is low, it can’t be ruled out, Lauria said in a weather update to The Star.
The meteorologist estimates that these storms will hit Kansas City sometime between 8 and 10 p.m.
The National Weather Service earlier issued a severe thunderstorm watch, which covers the Kansas City metropolitan area. The watch is in effect now until midnight.
Areas south and east of Kansas City, including Cass, Johnson and Lafayette counties in Missouri, are under a flash flood watch until Friday morning.
The severe weather is expected to shift away from the area after midnight.
