Kansas City included in severe thunderstorm watch ahead of Thursday night storms

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for the Kansas City metropolitan area ahead of a storm system Thursday evening that may bring damaging winds and hail, according to the National Weather Service.

The watch is in effect now until midnight for the Kansas City area as well as parts of northwest Missouri, northeast Kansas and south-central Iowa.

According to a Twitter post from the National Weather Service, these storms could produce large hail, winds up to 70 mph, heavy rain and “a couple of tornadoes.”

The storms are expected to reach the Kansas City area by 7 or 8 p.m., according to an earlier forecast provided by FOX4.
