Severe storms on the way to Kansas City Thursday, with hail and flooding possible
The Kansas City area could be hit with large hail and damaging winds Thursday evening as severe storms roll through the area, according to FOX4 meteorologist Alex Countee.
Flooding is also possible from the storms, which are expected to reach the Kansas City area around 7 or 8 p.m.
“You can see a lot of rainfall in a short amount of time,” Countee said in a weather update for The Star.
KC area residents, Countee said, need to stay “weather aware” for the rest of the afternoon.
Countee expects the storms to reach Lawrence and Topeka in Kansas around 4 p.m. After that, he said, the storms will grow throughout the afternoon. By 7 or 8 p.m. the storms will be centered on Kansas City.
By 10 p.m., Countee said, there will be a strong line of storms south of Kansas City. He expects the storms to have cleared out by midnight.
There is a 30% chance of storms Friday, Countee said. Though the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill predicts the rain will stay south of Kansas City.
There is an 80% chance of storms Saturday. After that, Countee said, the weekend should stay dry.
