Record cold in forecast for Kansas City on Monday, and rainy weather this week

Record cold temperatures are in the forecast for Monday, with rainy weather through much of this week, according to FOX4 meteorologist Garry Frank.

The lowest high temperature ever for May 11 in Kansas City is 54, and the record low is 34, said Frank, who provides weather updates to The Star.

Temperatures Monday are expected to top out at 53, Frank said, and could fall as low as 34.

“A very, very cold start to the week, before it returns to more of a springlike pattern, and more rain on the way,” he said.

After a Sunday of mostly sunny weather and a high temperature of 59, Monday will bring a chance of rain with the colder temperatures. Chances of rain will increase later in the week.

How we did this story

The Star produced this weather update in partnership with the local FOX4 television station. The station’s meteorologists create forecast videos multiple times a day for the newspaper to include in its weather reports.

The forecast Tuesday calls for a chance of rain and a high temperature of 56.

On Wednesday, rain and storms are more likely, and temperatures will warm up as high as 67 degrees. Chances for rain continue each day for the rest of the week, with temperatures in the 70s.

“Some areas could see 3 inches of rain by the end of the week,” Frank said. “It’s not going to rain every second of every day, but we do expect a pretty wet pattern setting up here.”
