Strong storms likely in Kansas City area Tuesday afternoon, calm weather to follow
An afternoon cold front is expected to bring a chance for severe weather Tuesday afternoon in Kansas City, said FOX4 meteorologist Karli Ritter.
“Later on today we’re going to see our highs topping out in the mid-70s prior to a cold front approaching, and as that front work its way through the metro, it is going to bring with it a chance for thunderstorms,” said Ritter, who provides weather updates to The Star.
There’s a moderate chance of wind and hail, with a slight chance for some tornado activity, she said, but flooding shouldn’t be a concern.
Ritter said the greatest chance for severe weather Tuesday will focus around and east of Interstate 35, and south and east of the city.
The weather system is expected to set in around 3 p.m. and clear around 6 p.m., she said.
BEHIND THE STORY
MOREHow we did this story
The Star produced this weather update in partnership with the local FOX4 television station. The station’s meteorologists create forecast videos multiple times a day for the newspaper to include in its weather reports.
Following Tuesday’s storm, the forecast should stay pretty quiet going into the weekend with little chance of rain again until Sunday.
Lows this week will dip down to the mid-40s overnight Wednesday and highs will peak in the low 80s Friday and Saturday, Ritter said.
