Showers move out of Kansas City area Monday; strong to severe storms to return

Morning showers are expected to move out of the Kansas City area leaving behind a sunshine and highs in the mid-70s Monday afternoon, said FOX4 meteorologist Karli Ritter.

“It should shape up to be a beautiful rest of your day after a soggy start this morning,” said Ritter, who provides weather updates to The Star.

Showers and thunderstorms, however, will return in advance of a cold front that is expected to sweep across the metro Tuesday, Ritter said.

Some the storms could be strong to severe Tuesday afternoon, Ritter said on Twitter.

“The biggest threat will be damaging winds & larger hail,” Ritter said. “Behind it, drier weather for the rest of the week.”

How we did this story

The Star produced this weather update in partnership with the local FOX4 television station. The station’s meteorologists create forecast videos multiple times a day for the newspaper to include in its weather reports.

Highs on Tuesday will reach the mid-70s. Behind the cold front, however, temperatures will be cooler with highs reaching the mid-60s on Wednesday.

The rest of the week will see highs in the 70s for the remainder of the work week. Highs could reach into the 80s on Saturday.
