Storms, thunderstorms roll through Kansas City bringing off-and-on rain showers
Storms and thunderstorms are expected to roll through the Kansas City area Friday, bringing on-and-off rain showers, according to FOX4 meteorologist Karli Ritter.
“We are going to fight the clouds,” said Ritter, who provides weather updates to The Star. “We are also going to have a mention of showers and thunderstorms off-and-on throughout the morning into the afternoon and eventually we will get the rain out of here this evening.”
Highs are expected to be in the lower 60s.
BEHIND THE STORY
MOREHow we did this story
The Star produced this weather update in partnership with the local FOX4 television station. The station’s meteorologists create forecast videos multiple times a day for the newspaper to include in its weather reports.
With a lot of outdoor temporary tents or shelters being used for medical purposes and testing for the coronavirus, people will need to watch the weather, Ritter said.
“Today, the winds are expected to be light, but you still want to secure your tents properly,” she said. “Later on today, specifically tonight through tomorrow morning, winds are going to be increasing quite a bit — gusting up to between 20 and 25 (mph).”
In addition with that, thunderstorms are possible along with a little bit of lightning, she said.
The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill advises people should assume that all tents are transparent with respect to lightning, meaning they do not offer any protection and should be evacuated before, during and 30 minutes after thunderstorms.
“We will be left with a much brighter finish to our weekend — and warmer as well,” Ritter said.
Highs this weekend will be in the upper 60s on Saturday and lower 70s on Sunday. Chances for rain return for the start of the work week.
