Rounds of rain expected in Kansas City, and severe thunderstorms possible mid-week
Rain is expected to fall throughout most of the day Monday in Kansas City before eventually leaving a drier forecast in place, said FOX4 meteorologist Karli Ritter.
“But we are not going to warm up,” said Ritter, who provides weather updates to The Star. “We will end up with temperatures stuck in the 40s for your Monday as we see this wave of rain rolling through.”
The rain will eventually push its way off to the east.
“But it’s going to take it’s sweet time,” Ritter said. “So don’t plan to put away the rain gear until sometime this afternoon. For some of you, we may still have some lingering showers this evening.”
The rain, however, will give way to a drier Tuesday, where high temperatures are expected to climb into the mid-50s.
“Then we see a little more active pattern continuing with showers and thunderstorms possible Wednesday into Thursday.”
Midweek temperatures are expected to be in the upper 60s and lower 70s with a high near 60 on Friday. The high on Saturday is expect to be in the mid-40s.

The Star produced this weather update in partnership with the local FOX4 television station. The station’s meteorologists create forecast videos multiple times a day for the newspaper to include in its weather reports.
Wet start of 2020 continues
The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill said a strong storm system is likely to impact the region Wednesday into Thursday, with locally heavy rain and strong storms possible.
“Several rounds of thunderstorms are possible beginning Wednesday morning and continuing into Thursday afternoon before a cold front sweeps through,” the weather service said in its situation report. “An average 1-3 inches of rain will be possible with locally higher amounts.”
The rain is expected to what has already been a wet start of the year for Kansas City, according to a tweet Sunday night from the weather service.
“2020 continues to get off to a wet start with KC picking up 5.81 inches through March 15th,” the weather service said. “Last year thru March 15th we had 5.26 inches. Normal is 3.57 inches. And it looks like we could pick up another 2 to 3 inches this week.”
