Got green rain gear? Cold rain likely for Snake Saturday Parade in North Kansas City

There’s a chance for rain in the Kansas City area before the end of the work week, but the best chance for showers will come on Saturday, according to FOX4 meteorologist Michelle Bogowith.

“For the day today (Wednesday), lots of cloud cover to start early this morning,” Bogowith said. “We’ve had some rain showers for folks on the south side and even a few rumbles of thunder.”

The storms, however, will be pushing away from the metro, leaving the area with increasing sunshine for the afternoon with high temperatures in the middle 60s, she said.

“We will continue with the middle 60s for Thursday, despite even better chances for showers and a few rumbles of thunder,” she said. “As we close out your work week on Friday, it will be on the cooler, drier note before our next round moves in overnight Friday into your Saturday.”

That will the metro area’s best chance for widespread showers in the forecast.

How we did this story

The Star produced this weather update in partnership with the local FOX4 television station. The station’s meteorologists create forecast videos multiple times a day for the newspaper to include in its weather reports.

Cold rain likely for St. Patrick’s Day celebration Saturday

“We are expecting cold rain showers and we got a big parade — the Snake Saturday Parade — going on,” Bogowith said. “I would suggest taking rain gear with you because those rain showers continue through the morning and into the lunch hour.”

For areas north of U.S. 36 highway, including the St. Joseph area, snow could be mixing in with the rain at times, Bogowith said.

“This will be moving out later in the day,” Bogowith said. “By the evening, I think it will just be mostly cloudy skies.”

Behind the storm system, temperatures will gradually warm with highs climbing to the upper 40s on Sunday and then the mid- to upper 50s to start the work week, which will have additional chances for showers and thunderstorms, she said.
